 PROJECT MANAGEMENT AT INTELLICOR

Most organizations have either: developed standard processes for implementing projects, utilize vendor provided plans for implementation of their products, or rely on the experience of employees. Intellicor feels that Project Management does not deal just with the specific activities for any given project or type of project, but rather describes the actions related to the management of a project. It has its own methodology which co-exists with whatever plan is being used.

What is needed for effective project management is someone who can relate business needs and technology capabilities and advocate on behalf of clients to their internal information services departments and on behalf of clients to the vendors whose products have been bought.  A good project manager should combine process knowledge with effective negotiating, selling, and communication skills.

Intellicor project managers are differentiated from other project managers by their realization that we are on-site for a temporary period, but the vendor relationship continues after we depart.  In order to "do right" by our clients, we must build on the vendor/customer relationship.

PROCESS

The activities of the project manager should be merged, within the overall project plan, with those activities associated with that particular project. As an example, a project for implementing a vendor package may have a Vendor supplied project plan for the package installation, this would have added to it those activities identified for project management in order to form a complete project planning document.

In our view Project Managers for a project are like airline pilots flying a route.  When conditions dictate, you are required to make the decisions to successfully complete your assignment.  If this means deviation from the procedure, DO IT.  We make sure that any deviations are documented and communicated. Intellicor project managers are all knowledgeable, experienced project managers, almost all have gone through formal training in project management techniques, whether traditional "waterfall" or newer "iterative".
